‘Timmerhuis’ will accommodate the town hall with audience and workspaces, 91 homes in a high-rise part and shops and restaurants at the streetside. The new building is built on a cleared courtyard, right in the city center, behind the monumental ‘Stadstimmerhuis’. Building with relatively small, prefabricated elements is a must.
The building consists of two steel cores around which a steel skeleton was built, composed of significant Vierendeel girders featuring cantilevers up to 17 m. The steel structure enables the desired modular layout of the building.
